
Preschool Prepares Children for Transitional Kindergarten or Kindergarten--Enroll Your Child Today
With 36 locations, two schedule options, and multiple teaching methods, SFUSD offers a preschool program for any family. Qualifying families can also attend at low or no cost.
Cost & Fees

Subsidized
Qualifying families may take advantage of a sliding-scale subsidy, based on family income. Additionally, families may seek subsidies if parents or guardians are:
- Employed or seeking employment
- Attending school
- Medically incapacitated
- Participating in CalWorks through Social Services
- Seeking permanent housing
- Receiving Child Protective Services

Tuition-Based
- Tuition-Based Enrollment Option: Available for families who do not qualify for subsidized PreK slots.
- No Eligibility Requirements: Tuition-based families are not required to demonstrate financial need or meet other eligibility criteria.
- First-Come, First-Served: Enrollment is based on availability and processed in the order applications are received.
- Tuition Cost: $2,200 per month for the 2024-25 school year (subject to change).
- Monthly Billing: Schools will invoice tuition-based families each month.
- Direct Payment: All fees must be paid directly to the child’s selected school.
- Application Fee: A non-refundable fee of $175 must be submitted with each child’s application.
- School Choice: Families may list up to three preferred schools on the application.
- Equal Services: Tuition-based and subsidized students share classrooms and receive the same level of instruction and services.

Schedule Options
At SFUSD, full-time and school-day options for prekindergarten (PreK) are available.
Children must be at least 3 years old on or before December 1 of the academic year in which they wish to enroll to be eligible for PreK.
Children who have their third birthday on or after December 2 of the fiscal year, may be enrolled in a PreK program on or after their third birthday.
Full-Time, Year-Round PreK
Full-Time, Year-Round PreK is offered at several Early Education Schools (EES) and select Elementary Schools (ES). Hours for schools range from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (check schools for specific hours).
School-Term PreK
School term PreK classrooms are generally located on elementary school campuses and run in alignment with the TK-5th academic calendar and school day for six hours. Please be sure to check individual schools for exact hours.
